LOFA board approves donation to Rice Lake Association
In a special board meeting on April 9, the LOFA board of directors voted unanimously to donate $500 to the Rice Lake Association toward their purchase of an Eco-Harvester to help in their effort to control Curly Leaf Pondweed, the invasive aquatic species that has infested their lake, parts of the Turtle River and Pike Lake, and was found in a few locations in Lake of the Falls last year. The minutes of the board meeting can be read here. With our pledge to donate, we included this request: “When you put the harvester to use, invite us to come up to Rice Lake to lend a hand, and learn what we can about the machine and your use of it.” Our reply, from RLA president Kathy Benninghoff, was this: Many, many thanks for your generous pledge. We really appreciate it and feel hopeful that our harvesting efforts will benefit all of us on the chain. We will definitely provide a heads up when we begin to harvest and look forward to your company as we launch this endeavor.
