The 2024 Annual Picnic was a big success!

We had 45 people at our 2024 LOFA Annual Picnic and everybody had a great time! After a short business meeting (the minutes can be read here), Wisconsin DNR water resources management specialist Kevin Gauthier gave a fascinating presentation in which he showed us the results of the Directed Lakes Survey he and his team conducted on Lake of the Falls and First Black Lake in 2023.  He emphasized the healthy diversity of plant life in our lake and encouraged us to do whatever we can to preserve this special place for future generations. That includes responsible shoreline stewardship, and we got some good ideas for ways to maintain and improve our shorelines in the years to come. Details of his presentation, including the Power Point slide show and links to all the survey results on the WDNR’s website, will be provided to LOFA members as soon as they are available.

Kevin stayed for lunch and answered everyone’s questions, as we enjoyed delicious burgers and hot dogs provided by Beaver’s, and side dishes and desserts brought by LOFA members. A big thank-you to LOFA president Jan Tesch for her expert planning, to Tom and Nikki at Beaver’s Resort for staffing the grill and keeping things going, and to Mike Moriarity and Steve Bayer for taking some great photos. A lot of them have found their way to our Facebook page, so take a look, and add some more if you have them!

And – a big WELCOME to all the new members who came out to the picnic! It’s great to see so many new faces around the lake.
