Broadband Update
Below is an excerpt from the Spider Lake newsletter regarding local broadband.
BROADBAND: Norm McKindles offers this update:
Gogebic Range.Net, along with the support of Gogebic Range Broadband Committee (serving Iron (WI) and Gogebic (MI) counties) has been awarded grants through the Wisconsin Public Service Commission which will pay for the installation of three additional internet towers in the Mercer area. The owner of Gogebic Range.Net has indicated that the Spider Lake and Fisher Lake towers to be the first to go up followed by one near Lake of the Falls. Once in place the towers will able to deliver 25 Mbps of internet speed to the affected areas. Stay tuned for more information.
CenturyLink has expanded its internet capabilities in the Mercer area by installing additional buried fiber and upgrading equipment to boost internet speeds and provide service to some areas which have not had service in the past. Currently the faster service is partially activated but not yet available to all customers. Recently CenturyLink representatives indicated that the faster service should be available to all customers by early summer at speeds somewhere between 10 and 20 Mbps depending on location.
