Just in time for opening day! Our new Fish Count Form

From Bill Dalpiaz of our Fishing and Water Quality Committee:

Our local DNR Fisheries Biologist Zach Lawson feels that any data on fish that are caught on Lake of the Falls or the Black Lakes will help give a better picture of the numbers and health of our fish populations. While working with him, we have created a form to document catches by our members, their families, and their guests. It gathers most of the same information as a Landing Creel Count at a boat landing which would require many hours of time.

The form is pretty straightforward and needs only the information you have, we expect that not all anglers may know the water temp or if the lake level is high or low. Any information on the form will help, this is not exact science, just a small piece of information that Zach can use to analyze our fish populations and catch rates. Please list all fish, even undersized. If anyone has any questions please e-mail me at: [email protected] (If you need help identifying all the fish you catch, use this handy guide from the Wisconsin DNR.)

Thank you in advance for your help.

Crappies in First Black Lake

In the last few years some LOFA members have expressed concern about perceived changes in the crappie population in First Black Lake. Wisconsin DNR Fisheries Biologist Zach Lawson listened to us and conducted a project late last year to assess the situation. Once again, we are most appreciative of  Zach’s efforts on behalf of our lakes. Thanks also go to LOFA board member Bill Dalpiaz for his time and effort as the head of the Fishing and Water Quality committee.

The report can be read  here and makes for very interesting reading.
